Priorities

What she’s fighting for.

Five issues that shape daily life in Sunny Isles Beach.

01

Traffic & Pedestrian Safety

Getting around Collins Avenue safely, on foot and by car.

Collins Avenue is a state road, so the city can’t change it on its own. FDOT’s resurfacing and signal project from 163rd to 178th Street began June 30, 2026, with overnight lane closures through the election. What the city does control is traffic enforcement, its own streets and crossings, and how hard it presses FDOT.

Her record

  • While she was Mayor, police ran targeted traffic enforcement on the main roads four nights a week, FDOT agreed to an all-red pedestrian phase at 158th Street, and the city added a crossing guard at 174th Street and North Bay Road.
02

Overdevelopment & Our Coast

Towers, traffic and the beach they share.

Every new tower changes traffic on Collins, the load on the city’s water and sewer lines, and the beach. The city can’t control FDOT or the ocean, but zoning and site-plan approvals are the Commission’s to grant or refuse. That is the one lever the city fully controls.

The state lists the beach along Sunny Isles as critically eroded. The last renourishment was in 2021.

03

Condo Owners

Inspections, reserves and the cost of keeping buildings safe.

Milestone inspections, structural reserve studies and reserve funding are set by Florida law (SB 4-D, amended by HB 913 in 2025), not the city. Miami-Dade offers condo assessment loans of up to $50,000 per unit, at 0% interest for eligible owners.

Today, City Hall’s condo help is a once-a-month state appointment desk, a link to the County’s loan program and the state ombudsman’s email.

Her record

  • Since 2019 she has run free Condo Rights Workshops for owners in Sunny Isles Beach, Aventura, North Miami Beach and Hallandale. She still moderates them herself.
  • A month after Surfside, she held one on how to read a building’s structural reports and its finances.
04

Taxes & City Finances

What City Hall spends, and what residents get for it.

Since Dana left office, general-fund operating spending has grown about 50% in four budgets, from $44.5 million to $66.7 million, and City Hall has added more than 40 positions.

Her record

  • The one budget she presided over as Mayor (FY2022–23) included $26.7 million for capital projects: parks, road resurfacing, sidewalks and pedestrian safety.
05

Public Safety

Police staffing and beach water quality.

The City Manager hires the police chief, and the Commission funds the department. Beach water quality is a safety issue too: the state has warned against swimming at Sunny Isles Beach when bacteria tests came back high.

Her record

  • Her FY2022–23 budget took budgeted sworn police positions from 58 to 61.
  • Police Chief Edward Santiago, a founding officer of the department, was sworn in under her leadership in April 2022.
